The Old Devil Inn was taken over in 2006 and re-opened at the beginning of 2007 with a much more stylish and sophisticated interior than before. You will now find a hugely improved menu of contemporary food all prepared from the freshest ingredients (sourced locally) and cooked on the premises.

Take, for example, steamed haddock served on a bed of creamed potatoes with cheese sauce and poached egg at £13.95 or sliced smoked duck breast with ginger, rhubarb, raspberry and champagne compote at £9.95. Starters include garlic field mushrooms served on a toasted walnut bread and buffalo mozzarella with a fresh tomato and onion salad drizzled with balsamic vinegar and virgin olive oil.

The portions are huge, but try to leave room for desserts like rhubarb crumble, lemon tart or warm pancakes with black cherries – all at £5.95.

All the food we had on a visit in July 2007 was great – very nicely presented with tasty sauces and huge, we really mean huge, portions.

The interior décor is a mix of contemporary and modern, with solid wood tables and comfy large arm-chairs. The dining area is split into several sections – this and the carpet means the noise level, even when busy, is low, making chatting with your fellow diners easy. There are large leather sofas to enjoy drinks from the bar and welcoming open fires (lit in winter) but the emphasis at The Old Devil Inn is firmly on the food.

The young waiting staff are very courteous and quick and have a good knowledge of the food and drink on offer. The owners keep a careful eye on proceedings.

Being on the A4 there is not much of a view towards the road, however the back of the pub/restaurant overlooks the attractive garden below, which has new play equipment including swings plus many garden tables. Whilst there is no specific children’s menu, the kitchen will prepare a half portion of any meal.

The Old Devil Inn is on the A4 – leave Maidenhead heading towards Reading and in less than 5 minutes you’ll see it on your left. There is a large car park and also 8 en suite letting rooms.

Well worth a visit. Booking recommended.

Simon Carr certainly seems to like it, writing on 9 July 07:

I just wanted to say thank you for the welcome and fantastic meal we had at The Old Devil Inn.

I have never been to your pub before and I was more than pleasantly surprised.

The welcome was fantastic, we were told you were fully booked, but every effort would be made to fit us in, if we chose to dine, I looked at the menu and definitely wanted to dine!! I personally had the fish pie, what a triumph!! the fish, perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned, the pomme puree topping, sublime.

Believe me this is difficult to say, being a chef myself!!

The decor, brilliant!! A beautiful mix of traditional pub,(beams etc), and smart restaurant styling. The black and red flower pattern paper behind the bar? a work of genius.

I have already forwarded this link to all foodies at work and will carry on to sing the praises of your wonderful venue.

Thank you again and see you very soon.
