Carters Steam Fair is based in White Waltham just to the West of Maidenhead. The fair travels the country and at the beginning of May spends the weekend at Pinkneys Green, also near Maidenhead.
Maidenhead.net visited the fair in May 2004 at Pinkneys Green and offers this photographic and video record for the benefit of our readers.

<<<< The steam yachts. Riders are swung to an almost vertical angle in large "yachts." You can see steam and soot coming from the engine. |
<<<< One of the steam engines providing power for the electric rides. |
<<<< Another steam engine, this one is named King George VI. |
<<<< Some clear warnings for those attempting the dive bomber... |
<<<< ...which can be seen in the background right of this shot. Riders have to hold tight as they are twisted and turned. |
<<<< All the fair's vehicles have a distinctive livery. |
<<<< There are children's rides too - the one in the foreground was built around 1955 and features toy Austin cars running round an oval track. The fair also features side shows like a coconut shy and a fishing game. |
