A traditional looking pub inside, this place was established in 1820. A large lunchtime food menu which is very good value is served 12-3pm Monday to Saturday. Sunday roasts served 1-3pm. A few tables outside at the front upon which you can sit and watch shoppers tramping back and forth to Sainsbury's (just round the corner) whilst you sip your pint and browse the papers during the summer. Caters for the older clientele, but not exclusively. Thursday night is darts, Sunday night is quiz night. Brakspear's real ales (very well kept) and Heineken, Stella and Fosters lagers. The only town-centre pub to appear in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide 1999. Open all day Sunday. Two gambling machines, one Monopoly machine. Fairly small inside with a TV, jugs hanging from the walls and cases full of spirit miniatures. Jim and Marilyn were the landlords until July 2003, it was then taken over by Graeme ? who is from South Africa.
