An idyllic location, right by the River Thames. Accessible really only on foot, the best way is from Bourne End - walk over the bridge that takes the railway over the river, then turn right along the bank and it's not far from the bridge. The other way to arrive is by boat - there are moorings alongside the pub.

But what a disappointment when you get there. A very untidy looking place which could do with a few thousand pounds worth of renovating. The garden at the front (overlooking the river) is a concrete mess with tired, shabby looking seating and worn-out tables. Inside it's slightly better and the place feels friendly enough, but we can't help thinking that with its quiet location away from roads with the river to its front and open fields to its back, this pub has great potential which is being sadly wasted. But perhaps the location is both its strength and weakness - being so difficult to get to, it probably lacks the trade required to enable further investment, particularly during the winter months.

Sounds like it has improved.....Richard Shadwell writes on 17 September 2001:

I recently visited the Bounty and it appears that your review is out of date as much has now been spent on improving the image. Worth visiting just for the novelty of its position.

And on 12 February 2002, Louise Brent writes:

don't go on a Bank Holiday! It may seem like a good idea, but it's always packed and you have to wait hours for food...

Otherwise I would recommend it for it's location, beer & service.
